Botanical painting workshop with Sarah Bryden - Wednesday 23rd September 2026
Botanical Calm is a relaxed two-hour creative workshop exploring the connection between nature, botanical art, sustainable gardening and pollinators.
Led by artist Sarah, you'll create your own personal botanical illustrations inspired by a selection of climate-resilient and pollinator-friendly flowers. As you draw and paint, Sarah will share ideas about plants that can tolerate both dry spells and wetter seasons, as well as flowers that help support local pollinators.
The selection of flowers will change throughout the seasons depending on what is naturally available, giving each workshop its own unique collection of plants to explore.
The session is loosely guided rather than a formal art lesson, giving you plenty of freedom to experiment and develop your own style. You can work in watercolour or explore mixed media such as pencils and pens, creating pages that feel personal and expressive.
Sarah will bring a selection of potted plants, seasonal flowers and seed heads for you to work from, as well as reference materials about local wildflowers and sustainable planting.
What to bring:
Your own sketchbook, which you'll use to build your botanical journal
Your favourite art materials if you have them
Any other materials you'd like to experiment with
Sarah will also bring a selection of art materials, including watercolour pens and pencils, for you to try, and Art Ease will have some basic supplies available.
Wednesday 23rd September | 6.30–8.30pm
The Big Onion Community Hub, Town Hall Gardens, Lord Street, Southport
£15 per person | Maximum 12 participants
No previous experience is needed. Come along, slow down, get curious about the plants around us and spend an evening creating your own botanical journal while learning more about climate-resilient planting and the importance of supporting local pollinators. 🌿
Booking is essential and spaces are limited.
